US Presidential Election 2024 : અમેરિકામાં નવા પ્રમુખની પસંદગી કરવા માટે પાંચમી નવેમ્બરના રોજ મતદાન યોજાવાનું છે. વ્હાઈટ હાઉસમાં એન્ટ્રી કરવા માટે રિપબ્લિકન પાર્ટીના ઉમેદવાર ડોનાલ્ડ ટ્રમ્પ (Donald Trump) અને ડેમોક્રેટિક પાર્ટીના ઉમેદવાર કમલા હેરિસ (Kamala Harris) જુદા જુદા રાજ્યોમાં જઈને જંજાવાતી ચૂંટણી પ્રચાર કરી રહ્યા છે, ત્યારે આ તમામ બાબતો વચ્ચે ન્યૂયોર્ક ચૂંટણી પંચે ભારતીય ભાષાને લઈને મોટો નિર્ણય લીધો છે.

ન્યૂયોર્ક શહેરના ચૂંટણી બોર્ડના કાર્યકારી નિદેશક માઈકલ જે.રયાને કહ્યું છે કે, અમે બેલેટ પેપર પર અંગ્રેજી ઉપરાંત ચાર ભાષાઓ લખવાનો આદેશ આપ્યો છે. 

અમેરિકાની ચૂંટણીમાં એશિયાઈ ભાષા તરીકે બંગાળી, ચાઈનીઝ, સ્પેનિશ અને કોરિયાઈ ભાષાને સામેલ કરવામાં આવી છે. તેમણે એમ પણ કહ્યું છે કે, એક ચુકાદા બાદ બેલેટ પેપર પર બંગાળી ભાષા લખવાનો નિર્ણય કરવામાં આવ્યો છે. 

ન્યૂયોર્ક સિટી પ્લાનિંગ વિભાગના જણાવ્યા મુજબ, ન્યૂયોર્કમાં 200થી વધુ ભાષાઓનો ઉપયોગ થાય છે, જે અમેરિકાને બહુભાષી દેશ પણ બનાવે છે. રયાને કહ્યું કે, ભારત દેશમાં અનેક ભાષાઓ બોલવામાં આવે છે. બંગાળની વાત કરીએ તો, આ ભાષાને લઈ એક ચુકાદો આવ્યો હતો, જેમાં એક નિશ્ચિત વસ્તીને ધ્યાને રાખી ભારતીય ભાષાની જરૂર હતી, જેમાં વાતચીત થયા બાદ બંગાળી ભાષાનો ઉપયોગ કરવા પર સહમતી સધાઈ છે. આમ તો ભારત-અમેરિકા વચ્ચે અનેક દાયકાઓથી ગાઢ મિત્રતા છે, પરંતુ છેલ્લા કેટલાક સમયથી બંને દેશો વચ્ચે સામાન્ય તકરાર પણ જોવા મળી છે. 

અમેરિકાએ ખાલિસ્તાની આતંકવાદી ગુરપતવંત સિંહ પન્નુની હત્યાનું કાવતરું ઘડવા બદલ ભારતીય નાગરિક સામે આરોપો ઘડ્યા છે. ભારત-કેનેડા વિવાદને લઈને અમેરિકાએ નિવેદન આપ્યું હતું કે, ‘કેનેડાના આરોપો ગંભીર છે અને ભારતે તેની તપાસમાં સહયોગ આપવો જોઈએ.’ તાજેતરમાં અમેરિકાએ રશિયાના સૈન્ય-ઔદ્યોગિક અડ્ડાઓને કથિત રૂપે સમર્થન આપનારાઓ વિરુદ્ધ કાર્યવાહી કરી હતી, જેમાં 15 ભારતીય કંપનીઓ સહિત 275 વ્યક્તિઓ અને સંસ્થાઓ પર પ્રતિબંધો લદાયા હતા.
